What is an Essential Oil?

Essential oils are aromatic compounds found in plants. They are extracted from various plant parts such as flowers, stems, leaves, bark, roots, sap, and fruit. These compounds are the plant's immune system that helps to protect it from disease and predators. Through scientific research and history, we have discovered that these oils have value for us as well.

Essential oils are powerful. They have powerful properties that help support the body's immune system, response to pain and swelling, and mood and emotions. Essential oils are lipophillic, so they can be absorbed quickly through the skin and the cell membrane of the cells of our bodies. Some essential oils can even cross the blood-brain barrier. Essential oils are able to shift the mood and evoke powerful emotional responses. They are completely safe when used properly and in their purest form.

Essential oils can be used aromatically, topically, and internally*. When using oils topically, it is best to dilute them with a carrier oil such as Fractionated Coconut Oil, Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, Sunflower Oil, or Olive Oil to name a few, to prevent skin irritation. Never put essential oils directly in the ears or the eyes. Never dilute with water. Various oils have different potencies and some are "hotter" oils than others requiring more dilution, so be sure to know how to safely dilute an oil before applying topically

.

*Note: Internal use is only specific to certified pure essential oils due to purity standards, and always check the bottle for safety of internal use.
